How do we overcome laziness?

Do you like being lazy? Why do we get lazy? Is it because we don’t know what to do? Or is that because easy to stay without doing anything? Can we achieve anything by being lazy? There are things that we can do to overcome laziness.

1- Make dhua, to overcome laziness.

I take refuge in you from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, stinginess and cowardice, the burden of debt and being overpowered by men.” (From FB group)

This is a dhua that Prophet Muhammadh Sallallah Alaihi Wasallam said often. As a believer, we should ask for everything from Allah. In Quran Surah 40, the meaning of verse 60 is “Your Lord has said: Call to me that I may answer your call. Surely those who disdain to worship me will enter Hell, disgraced”. (App. Quranic words)

2- Ask people who have the knowledge and are successful.

Ask Questions from people who know and are successful to get information about how they work without getting lazy. And do what they tell you. If we want to know something we should ask people who know. In Quran Surah 21, the meaning of Ayah 7 is “Never did we send a message before you but through a man, whom we inspired. If you do not know, then ask the keepers of the oracles of God”. (App. Quranic words)

3- Take care of your eating habit.

When you eat say “bismillah” before you start eating. Don’t overeat. “No human fills a container worse than his stomach. Two small portions of food to straighten his backbone are sufficient. If he must [eat more], then let it be a third for food, a third for drink, and a third for breathing.” (From YL360 course). After you finish eating say “Alhamdhulillah”.

4- Think about what will happen if you don’t work.

If you don’t work, you will never succeed. You will always feel unhappy. You will face so many troubles. You will feel guilty. We are in this world to do good deeds. In Quran Surah 67, the meaning of the Aayah 2 is: “Who created death and life to try you to see who of you are best of deeds. He is all-mighty and forgiving.” (App.Quranic words)

5- Motivation.

To overcome laziness, we should get motivation. Think about how happy you and your family will be when you finish your tasks. Think about the benefits and rewards you will get when you do your tasks.

 6- Be with positive people.

If you are thinking negatively you won’t like to work. So, stay with positive people. When you are with positive people, they will talk good things. So, your behavior will change, and you will become a positive person. When you think that you can reach your goals, you would start working towards that.

7- Think about what will happen on the Day of Judgment.

What will you tell your Lord on the Day of Judgment, if you haven’t done any work? Wouldn’t you like to see your results with more good deeds? What will happen to you seeing your results when you have wasted all the time doing nothing?

8- Dislike the habit of laziness.

Remember that your enemy, Shaitan will be very happy to see you in a state of laziness. He likes to see you doing nothing and wasting your time. So, fight back the laziness., Strive and struggle to overcome this habit.

I hope you have got the knowledge to overcome laziness. Do your best to get rid of the bad habit. May Allah help you overcome the habit of laziness.
