What are the responsibilities of Muslim youths to build a better community? The Muslim youths should know their roles in building the community. They should learn and do it.

Allah says in the Quran ayah 11 of surah 13, “Allah changes not the conditions of a people until they change what is in themselves.”  So, Allah gave us the power in building the community.  The Muslim youth should build one of the following characteristics in building the community.

 They should do it to develop themselves.  What are their potentials? By getting the right knowledge and developing themselves, they would know their potential. Nowadays, it is very easy to get knowledge as technology is developed. It is their responsibility to get the right knowledge and practice it. They can’t change anything without changing themselves. After acquiring knowledge, they should practice and educate their community.

In Quran ayah 44 of Surah Al Baqarah, there is “Do you order righteousness of the people and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? then will you not reason?”

The meanings of ayah 42 of Al Baqarah: “And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth).”

Giving the right knowledge and making dhua for the community is a very important thing.

There is a Hadhees that Prophet Muhammadh Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “None of you has faith until he loves for his brother or his neighbor what he loves for himself.”  (Sahih Muslim 45)

Forbidding evil things is something the Muslim youth should do to build a better community. When they see someone doing evil, they should stop that as there is a Hadhees;

“He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand and if has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith.” (Sahih Muslim 49a)

The Muslim youth should help needy people. There are lots of people who need help. They should spend what they have in their capacity.

In Quran Allah Said in ayah 92 of Surah 3; “You will never attain to piety till you spend from that which you love and whatever you spend- indeed, Allah knows of it.”

Moreover, when Muslims meet they should greet one another with Salaam. When he says Assalaam Alaikum warahumathullahi wabarakaathuhu it is a dhua that he is making for another Muslim asking Allah for peace.

There is a hadith in Sahih Muslim; “A Muslim has six rights upon his fellow Muslim brother. The companions may Allah be pleased with them said; “what are they, o Prophet of Allah?” He [the prophet] replied: “If you meet him, you should say salaam to him, if he invites you, you should accept his invitation, if he seeks your advice, you should advise him, and if he sneezes and says “Alhamdhulillah- praise be to Allah.” You should say to him “May Allah have mercy upon you”, If he is sick, you should visit him, and if he dies, you should follow his funeral procession.”

To build a better community it is very important to practice this Hadith.

They should volunteer and join to do good deeds. There are so many projects for volunteers. When they volunteer for a good project, they are spending their time doing good deeds. Doing that they will get rewards from Allah depending on their intention. Working together they can achieve success. They all should join their hands to help each other and to spread the right knowledge.

In Quran Surah 3, ayah 103 “Hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. Remember the favor of Allah upon you, when you were enemies, and He brought your hearts together and you became brothers by his favor.”

Doing the above things, they will get rewards in both worlds in addition to building the community.

Allah Said in the Quran 41:46; “whoever does righteousness – it is for his (own) soul; and whoever does evil [does so] against it. And your Lord is not ever unjust to [His] servants.

May Allah give the right knowledge to the Muslim youth and the ability to build a better community in the right way.
